Winner of “Best Jeweler” Award Cheryl B. Stark first came to Martha’s Vineyard to teach jewelry making in 1966. She was nineteen years old, and a student of jewelry and silversmithing at the Boston Museum School. For the next four years, she divided her time between her small shop in Vineyard Haven and her booth on 47th Street in New York City’s diamond district. She settled on the Island year round in 1970. In 1972, Margery Meltzer joined the business, first as an apprentice and then as a full-time partner. Margery contributes to CB Stark ’s jewelry design, production and repair, and continues to add to the growing collection of original CB Stark designs. Over the past thirty-five years, CB Stark Jewelers has created over 150 original Island designs, as well as numerous custom pieces. CB Stark’s handcrafted designs are a truly homegrown product of Martha’s Vineyard, and are not available anywhere else. For the past 7 years CB Stark Jewelers has been awarded the “Best Jeweler” award in the Vineyard Gazette reader survey. Collecting CB Stark jewelry has become an Island tradition. Each year there are new designs, which become Island “musts”. Customers have become friends, and many vow that no visit to Martha’s Vineyard is complete without a trip to CB Stark’s.
